Social Technology Review presents the advantages and disadvantages of Drupal. I got a kick out of this line:
For those of us new to CMS tools, Drupal is essentially WordPress — on a three-day speed binge.
I'm not sure I agree with this, but it makes a larger point to the non-technical crowd. Drupal is definitly "more" than Wordpress. My major beef with this analysis is that the disadvantages are either no longer true or were never true.
- Usability - The real issue is that the community was based on web developers and it was designed specifically for their needs, not necessarily the needs of the end user. This used to be a real problem, but there have been any major improvements in this area.
- Backwards compatibility - I'm not sure what the author is driving at. First, Drupal is not new at all. The pont about having legacy software and making a migration would hold true with any system, not just Drupal. This should not discourage anyone from improving their website.
- Performance - I'm not sure I agree with this assessment in the sense that I don't think that most website owners would notice any issues here. You may run into problems with a very large website and discover the need for more server resources. But it largely depends on what you are trying to accomplish and most users won't max out on performance.
