There is an excellent review of Drupal at the CMS Critic website. It is a little dated, but it does into great depth about the inner workings of Drupal itself. Perhaps, it is more geared to the web developer or super-user that would be actually building a Drupal website, but the casual observer may also find it useful in making a decision on a CMS.
